For those up to a challenge, developing new products is exhilarating as it offers opportunities to explore new technologies and apply existing technologies in new ways. However, the thrill is often short-lived when transitioning from prototyping to production. Many OEMs lack design experience with the technologies specific products require. For example, OEMs may not have the necessary expertise with certain microcontroller unit (MCU) types, memory, Radio Frequency (RF) technology or Ingress Protection (IP) levels. Also lacking could be Design for Manufacturability (DFM) or Design for Assembly (DFA) experience. Without the necessary degree of experience, OEMs will face problems during the first phase of manufacturing, commonly known as the production pilot run. This can result in a frustrating, time-consuming, and costly loop of product redesigns and pilot runs.
OEMs want to see high-quality products rolling out from the assembly line in the shortest possible time. But what risks exist from not following DFM best practices and how can you ensure your Electronics Manufacturing Services (EMS) partner will help avoid them?
We put our knowledge and experience with customer experience into short guides. These are meant to help you understand complex issues and make a decision. Download our free whitepaper now!
